As a young child, Tara spent many hours with her father painting

small, military figurines with him. As the youngest of six children, this was a hobby that

she treasured. For Christmas one year she received her very own set of plastic figurines to paint, she was just 8 years old.  She painted those figures to mimic his style and to earn the

coveted praise from her talented father. Little did she know that the hours spent

were invaluable lessons towards honing her fine motor skills and patience. She has

said that these lessons directly impacted her, as they are the earliest memories and

influence in her artistic life.

After graduating high school early, Tara won a Rotary scholarship to study abroad for a year. She explored art and culture while being

immersed in a new country never having heard the language. After returning home,

she studied in WNY and received her degree in Liberal Arts. She excelled in fine

arts but took the more practical route to secure a steady job and career. She had worked

in the Steel industry while attending college but realized that wasn’t her career path. Not sure what direction to take, her brother-in-

law, who was a talented Horologist, gave her a catalog for a jewelry-making school in

Florida that had a fantastic reputation of placement upon completion. Tara jumped at the

opportunity, and upon certification, she started her two-year apprenticeship in

Orchard Park, NY. This was the beginning of her love affair for all things precious

and fine metal. Her career has spanned over 30 years and that desire has not waned

in all of that time. In fact, the need to explore, execute and master her craft amongst

these fine materials has only grown.

In a world with diminishing and at-risk resources, Tara firmly believes in

renewable materials. Why not take the "waste” that is left over, only to be refined, and instead use those materials to craft something new? Not only has

Tara created some beautiful

pieces from vintage materials, but she has also restored many heirlooms to near-perfect

condition. To be gifted with the knowledge from artisans from centuries past, who

understood metal and created iconic designs, there are infinite new possibilities for

merging high-tech equipment with age-old techniques. With these skills and

precision, Tara’s journey elevates to greater heights in the world of design.

Along the way, she has worked with award-winning designers and

internationally acclaimed companies. These opportunities have helped form the

artist and the designs behind the TMG Collection.

Let’s get to know the designer, Tara Goodman, who is the artist behind The TMG Collection.
